Usually I don't complain too much about my commute. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to arrive at work (that includes walking time to the train). It's free (since PCMC doesn't have enough parking for all it's employees, they kicked the newest of us off site to park & take the trax in), convienent (since we only have the one car), and I get time to read (unless I'm standing).
There are draw backs - like I have to wait for the train and I don't always make it to the train on time. (can't you just see me running down the street trying to catch the train because I spent a couple extra minutes on my hair or because I lost my key?) For the most part though I can't complain.
Except for today. Today I was on the train (I made the 8:09 - which usually arrives about 8:25) and it started going up the hill and then it slowly stopped. I thought "well it is a little crowded and this particular train is a little old, maybe it just needs to rev up its engine and push forward" but it was no more crowded than usual and everyone on the platform made it into the train (which doesn't always happen). So the train tried to move forward and failed (moving forward a foot or so then sliding back down the hill three feet). After about 6 more tries (no exaggeration) the conductor finally realized that no matter how hard he thought he could, he wouldn't get this train up the hill. Meanwhile a college student called her mom and said "I think I'm going to die" and a gay dude called his "sweetie" and told him over and over that he "loved" him. (BLEGH!)
Needless to say we sat there for another 10 minutes until another train came up beside us (on the track usually used for trains going the other way). We all crammed (and I mean crammed) on to the second train that was already full (unfortunately the second train couldn't hold all of us and about 20 or so people were left behind to wait for a second train to come help). It was SO full.
And about 50 minutes after arriving at the train station I clocked in..... ready for another day at work.
