Almost 30 going on 13

Ironically I turned on the TV Saturday afternoon and one of my favorite movies was on - 13 going on 30.  Not that I was ever a huge Madonna fan or that I even ate Razzles because really I grew up in the late 80's early 90's.
It totally got me in flashback mode for later that night when I went to the much anticipated New Kids on the Block concert.
I say much anticipated because 1) I have some wonderful memories of being a fan [the best being the night my dad took me to a music store and bought me my first CD "Hangin' Tough" and a huge button with Donnie's picture on it.  I remember thinking how cool my dad was as he patiently listened to my favorite songs that night with me.]  2) they were the first concert I ever attended , 3) When I heard they were getting back together I immediately looked to see if their tour concert was coming within a 6 mile radius of me, and 4)  I bought my tickets the day they came out - way back in May - right after Matthew was born.  Oh!  and I still had all my stuff (courtesy of my parents letting us use their house as a storage facility until we find a place big enough for all of it)- the trading cards, the card game, the shirt (which my mom had to add a little fabric on the sides to in order for it to still fit)...etc... well you get the point.
So a group of my friends (yeah John said he would never go with me in a million years & also would crack up when ever I mentioned that I was SO excited ) and I got all ready & went.

It was AMAZING!!!

First, they had a screen where you could text a message to the crowd & possibly win front stage tickets.  We didn't win tickets but our messages got up there (which was really fun to see).  And there were some hilarious messages - one in particular "Joey will you marry me?  I know you're already married but in Utah you can have more than one!"
Second, everyone there was as excited as I was & remained so throughout the concert.  Seriously, my cousin & I maybe sat down for 4 of their songs - the rest of the time we were up with the crowd waving our arms & singing along (yeah - so bizarre that I still remember a lot of the words from almost 15 years ago).
Third, it was a really good show with wardrobe changes and indoor fireworks.  And of course the guys sang really well.  (although they were a little more PG 13, now that their audience is older - too much butt shots for my liking, as well as other things...)
Fourth, this girl threw up on the stage a shirt to Donnie (my first famous person crush) that said "I love (well heart) Mormon girls" and he said he did! (as well as other type of girls)  Then he went on to sing "Cover Girl".  That was fun / funny
Fifth, I was able to act like a total teenager again.  And believe me I did.  Screaming, singing, everything.  Only my true friends wouldn't have acted like I was a stranger.
Well you get the point - I had an amazing time.

Needless to say when I got to bed at 1:00 a.m. and my ears were ringing so loud I doubted my ability to hear my son in the next room I did think to myself "maybe I am getting a little old".  And I definitely felt old when I had to wake up with Buddy at 6:00 a.m. and I had possibly the worst headache in my life.

I guess the best thing about the concert was being able to look back at the past 15 years and realize that if I take it Step by Step and keep Hangin' Tough, I'll make it through the hard days and dance and sing through the awesome ones.

Thanks Donnie, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan, and Danny for the laughs and the trip down memory lane.  But I think I'd rather be almost 30 than going on 13.

I seriously had a blast. No concert will ever compare. ;) That's cool your Dad bought you the album and listened to it... that's a cool memory.

We're for sure going to Idaho for Thanksgiving, I'm leaving Sunday afternoon actually (I have a Young Women's thing in Sugar City I'm doing) and I'll be there until Friday evening... Kingston will probably come up Wednesday or so if you guys decide to come, you/me/he/she whoever whenever is welcome to carpool if you guys don't have Utah plans.
