I confess - I blog stalk at least half a dozen decorating blogs. I could spend hours watching a house flipping show or anything on HGTV (if I had cable). But I haven't done anything to jazz up or customize our new house besides plain white blinds, hang up some curtains we already had, and put a few pictures (like three) up on the wall. I am also afraid of paint. I don't know why - it is a silly thing to be afraid of actually (and very easy to fix if it doesn't turn out) - but our walls are what I like to call "new construction tan". I have some ideas for the front room and the master suite in mind but it is Buddy's room that floors me.
The problem is this illustration that John got from one of his professors.
I wasn't too thrilled - I mean, it's a cute illustration but cows don't hatch out of eggs and they don't have wings. Then John spent some money and got it framed (even with 60% off, it was more than I would like to spend on a frame) right after Buddy was born.
The frame is black, and yes, the picture has to stay. (John said "yes it has to stay in the room and why are you worried about decorating Buddy's room anyway. Just leave it. Typical guy) The furniture is light wood (if particle board can be called wood), and the decor is what I like to call "whatever".
I really liked this plaque my aunt got us and I was thinking of going with one of the blues for an accent wall or something.
Another problem is that I would like to keep the theme gender neutral (in case Buddy has to share his room with a sister in the next two years or so. And NO that's not an announcement).
This is where my blog stalking hopefully pays off. I"m going to contact these lovely ladies and see if they will impart advice on Buddy's hodgepodge room. I also would appreciate any advice from you (my friends & family) - especially if it has pictures or paint swatch names.
I'll keep you posted - hopefully I'll be able to get some great ideas.

Hi Becky,
I got your email & I am thrilled to death that you are attempting the gender neutral nursery! As for your dilemma, I would say that the first thing is to paint the walls a fresh color like the light blue from the background of the Buddy frame...or a light green from your the cow art. I would also consider creating a gallery wall with your art. That way you can use more black frames with pieces you love to add some more 'mythical creature charm' to your already whimsical winged bovine art.
Hope this helps & keep us updated on what you do!

Hi Becky! I like your idea of painting a feature wall, and I think either blue (like the M on the plaque) or a green (pull the color either from the artwork or the plaque) would be great. Usually a feature wall is the focal point wall, and in a bedroom, that's generally the wall that the bed goes on, so I would recommend you paint the crib wall. I think that blue would look especialy nice with your furniture. I like Katie's idea of making a gallery wall with art, and I always think great pictures of your son make great art too. You could do a combo of art and photos, that would be less expensive, and some of your "art" could be whimsical illustrations from a children's book. I'm sure you could find one with similar colors as the large art piece that you already have. If you place the art wall above the other furniture pieces (to the left in the pic), that would give some height to that wall. A bookcase would be great to keep your eye out for for that wall also, or on the wall under the plaque.
One other thing, if you like "letter art", you could buy either wood or paper mache letters to spell your sons name above the crib on that wall. Either paint the letters or decoupage them with scrapbook paper that coordinates. Let me know if you have questions, this was fun! :)
I LOVE that greyish green in the inspiration art -- if you do decide to paint you could use that. Or, you could do one wall in a color from the art. Or even blocks of color on one wall too? (From the art you like! Ha!)
Other than that, you can add more colors in fabrics and accessories -- that way you can make it work for either a girl or boy. :)
